300/440/550 550 dies when sideway

It shuts off when its on its side almost every time. i dont think water is getting in the carb. why might this be?

Does it get completely on it's side? Most skis cut off if you're not on the throttle and the ski is sideways. When it goes on it's side, all the gas sitting in the manifold and carb dumps in and floods it.

Are all of your electronics sealed good? Water in the hull may be shorting out your electronics.

sorry for the delay in response gentlemen, thank you for all you helpful advice. my ebox is tight. i have a square body carb that was just rejetted heres my ski http://www.x-h2o.com/threads/102019-85-550-1000

It also takes a while to start when it hasnt run in a while. I have to wot until it starts. brand new stator, starter, and cdi and plugs

im thinking about putting new motor in it, would it be worth it to drop a newer sx reed motor in it? theres a motor on craigs for 25 bucks http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/boa/2723134186.html thoughts?

The reed motors are a lot better. That motor on craigslist is just the cylinder and cases, not a complete motor

Yes. You will also have to use your crank, flywheel, and stator. What's wrong with your motor?

nothing but there was a crack in the water jacket but that was welded. why do you think it takes so long to start?

Incorrectly tuned carb. What are your mods and jets in the carb? It's also very possible you have a leaky n/s and that would explain the ski cutting out when you fall on your side and the bad starting.

I have no idea i took it to the shop where mark gomez used to work and they tuned and rejetted it.

I had the same symptoms with mine, and a X2 last year, its the needle and seat. when you roll to the side, the carb floods then dies. And when you try and start it, there is so much fuel in the carb, preventing it from starting easily.
