550/750 Swap Build questions

Alright everyone,

Ive gone face first into a 550 750 swap and have all the generic stuff I need (driveshaft, rhaas mount and pump kit, a 750 with electronics). I'm missing, carbs, and pipe. I was wondering what you guys thought about this pipe wise (Im looking to port polish and put a high comp head on it). And any other ideas of things I should be doing for this swap, battery box, ebox location, fuel tank, etc.

Do the timing advance plate while you have it apart.
I'd only recommend that if he isn't running a small pin cylinder specifically a sx cylinder as the 6 degree advance is too much timing for that cylinder on pump gas especially at max rpm. I'd skip the advance plate and go with a Zeeltronic if anything. 750 electronics will work with the zeel out of the box.

The 550 hull really limits pipe without fiberglass work. You'll have to run a 650 pipe which really doesn't have the volume to make the 750 perform to its max potential especially with porting. You might can fit a fpp sj mod chamber if you're lucky. I ran a modified Westcoast pipe that i lengthened and made the center section larger and had decent performance out of it. I rode a 550 hull for years realizing no matter how much work I put into it and engine ect at the end of the day its still a 550 and will perform like one regardless what you do to it. But it is a good ski to learn on. I learned how to fiberglass with my 550. My riding ability dramatically increased once I stepped up to a superjet though especially with wake jumping, surf riding, and freestyle.

Checkout my build to see how tight it is with a pjs 3 piece pipe.

My parts are touching the hull even after trimming the mount, lowering the lord mount, pushing the pipe as close to the motor as possible (limited by starter motor 12v+ cable stud) and egg shaping the pipe outlet.

Was it all worth it? Do you enjoy riding the 550 more/less then your other skis?

I have not really gotten to enjoy it all that much yet. I have been traveling for work and am starting a new job in a few weeks so things have been hectic enough to keep me off the water since the first ride.

That said, even the abridged first ride where I was tracking down a water flow issue and had the throttle zapping me due to a tiny nick in the start button wiring on the handlebars, it was hilariously fun even not having a clue with what I am doing. 10/10 would keep riding.

The other skis are fun but are way more about riding as fast as possible or cornering as hard as possible, the standup is all about the overall experience and the playfulness of it.

I had a 2011 mini cooper s that I loved because it was like a gocart and it just felt fun even going half the speed of my buddies with faster cars. The standup is just like that car.

It won't replace my big couches but I can see it always coming along with them.

Was the work worth it? Purely money wise, absolutely not. I can almost guarentee I would have had plenty of fun out of a rebuilt 550 rather than the 750 in it now. Do I regret it? Not even a little bit. The build was a lot of work but also a lot of fun and I am proud of how it came out. It is in no way perfect but I am happy with what it is.
