440... worthy to mod or scrap...

i just recently picked up a js440. i work on cars, ive had 2 sea doo 3 seaters but this is new to me. i know a 440 isnt a big motor at all.. but is it worth it to keep and mod or am i better off selling it off for a 550 or bigger. also where is good places to find parts for js440s? and what do you all recomend for upgrades on a 440 that will boost up the power for those fun wavy days

On here, your gonna hear, sell it save the money and get a SJ. I do agree, but an ol 440 can be fun for your first ski. Just dont sink money into it. Just get it reliable and ride it,if you still like it get a SJ :)

:newbie:  Sorry, had to. First off welcome to the X:arms: SJ is short for a yamaha Superjet its the prefered freeride ski of this site. After hanging oout on here for about a month,I had to buy one.

Good luck to ya. Now get back to workin on your fuel issue so you can get ridin:woot:

440's can be a very fun ride. Don't let these guys get you down (I think they may be a little biased towards the SJ's:haha: ) Their light weight makes them exceptionally flickable. One thing though is they don't handle heavier riders very well unless they are heavily modded. Just ride, beat it, and enjoy it!

see in my area no one has stand ups. all summer i dident see a single one and i live on the beach during summer. sit downs are all popular.

what i wonder is on the stormy days before a storm we get huge 8-10 foot waves that cap and what not. im wondering if me weighing 150+ a 88 sj440 with a 550 swapped in with high compression will be enough oumphhh to launch the waves like i do with my 3 seater doos.

I just sold my 550. It was stock with the exception of a ride plate, intake grate, and a waterbox. I weigh 175 and I was able to get decent air off of my own wake. Even more air off of my boat's wake.
Don't let the SJ downers get on your case. The 550/440 can be a blast especially for the price. Of course after a year of riding the 550 I was ready to upgrade. ;)

i picked up this ski for 150 and it has no damage to the hull minus some chips which i do body work on cars so i plan to do a quick touch up and make some footholds and give it a wicked paint job. as for the motor it came witha 440 but i think i will be picking up a 550 with a full fresh rebuild for like 100 bucks. in the end after turfing it, paint ect it will cost me under 500 bucks to make a pretty sweet looking ski and hopefully fun to ride.

dont put too much money into....you are gonna want more. my friend that had a 550 now has a square nose super jet (snsj) and she is very impressed with the power difference. either you will get bored with it quickly because of the lack of power or you will be buying another in a month or so. enjoy and welcome to the standup club.
