300/440/550 440 or 550 pump?

How do i tell if the pump i have in my random parts box is a 440 or 550 pump? whats the difference? im just getting into kawis and don't really know much about them i built a sj last year. Im in the process of doing a flatdeck 550 with flush mounted custom handlepole. Any suggestions are nice .

550 pumps are three pieces. you have the wear ring, main stator pump area, and then the exit nozzle. the prop 0n a 550 pump screws onto the pump shaft, in the pump stator. there are two different 550 pumps. early 1982 to 1989 JS type, and later 90 to 95 SX type.

440 pumps are two piece. the wear ring, and main pump stator are one unit. the exit nozzle is seperate. on a 440, the prop screws onto the main drive shaft, so there is no pump shaft in a 440 pump.

The pump will fit but you have to have the 440 shaft and impeller to go with the pump,if you are into freestyle stick with the 550 pump and put a decent impeller in it ,it has better hookup at low rpms

550 pump produces more thrust at lower rpms,440 pump flows more water and is better for higher rpms and top speeds, for freestyle I would go with a 550 pump and a progressive pitch impeller

well prob be a high compression head with half pipe exhuast aftermarket water box and a 44 carb the rest stock.... im not really sure what would you suggest to bring the power out of a 550 lol... this is just gonna be my little river run ski ive been wanting to do a flatdeck for a while

I had great luck with a skat 15.5 straight pitch. Never tried a progressive pitch.

what did jetworks do to the motor and is it a 550 motor? reed or pp? just curious cause im about to purchase a 550 reed
I got a fresh top end .060 over, full motor port, new crankshaft out of a lazerjet, blackjack 44mm carb, shaved head. The motor is a piston port. I had a goki reed adapters that I was going to put on but Art told me that I might have problems with it coming loose so I just left it off to not have to deal with problems.
