SXR 2011 SXR stalling after the first tank of fuel

Hello,

I have a 2011 SX-R 800 that is less than one day old. After burning through the first full tank of fuel (We had to switch to "Reserve") I took it back to the dock to re-fill. A new tank was added..... I rode it for about twenty minutes, nothing crazy, some steep bank turns, then back to the shore.... It floated attached to the buoy for maybe an hour..... My wife started it back up again (She's been riding stand-ups since she was a kid, I have always been on two wheels until now). She took it around for maybe five minutes, and it stalled. She never rolled, flipped or submerged the ski, it just stalled at random while riding. About five minutes later she was able to get it started. She got maybe fifty feet from shore before it stalled again. I asked if the fuel was "On"... yes. Was the choke on?... "No". Nothing was stuck in the intake and there was maybe 3/4" of water in the hull. After waiting for about ten minutes, I was able to start it up by choking it half way, then turning the choke off completely. I then limped it back to the ramps without a stall, anticipating it might in the middle of the traffic.

When we pulled it from the water at the boat ramp, I checked the plugs and they were not fouled.... At this point I really had no idea. Does this sound like some water made it into the fuel tank?...... It ran great for the first tank-full of fuel but once it was filled the problems began.

Please, any advice on this would be great.

Were the pissers pissing correctly? What fuel, what oil, and what mix ratio were you using?

Maxima Super-M oil, 91 octane fuel at a 60:1 ratio... The oil is maybe a month old from the store and the fuel was pumped on Friday.

It might be a stuck needle and seat but you say the ski is new, correct? And the first tank went flawlessly?

Like you, I'm wondering about crappy gas.

Ethanol?

I bought the gas at Chevron so I would think it would be okay..... My biggest concern is possible H2O in the fuel tank. That is the only thing I could think of, but I have no idea what the symptoms are if water is in the fuel. Even if it is only a spoon-full..... Have you encountered this before?

I've sucked in a ton of water into my fuel, bogs it down then clears out unless the tank's got a bunch in it.

Will it idle OK now?

It seems to idle okay right now.... What I don't understand is why it would run on one tank great, and the net not as good. Has anyone noticed a significant difference in oil?

Ive ran many different kinds of oil in my 2008 SXR and had zero problems, and I get gas at many different places

The day I bought mine however I ran it out of gas and switched to the reserve key and I had some issues re-starting it for a few minutes. When i finally got it started it puffed up a lot of white smoke like it was flooded or something? Im not sure?

SXRmike420,
That is exactly what happened. What did you do, if anything, to fix it? Or did the symptom just go away?

After I finally got it started it ran fine... I just never run it out of gas anymore

It sounds like its something to do with the reserve key. Maybe it takes it a little bit to fill the lines back up with fuel and in the meantime when your trying to start it and fluttering the gas it floods it?

Did you get it working yet?
