2008-up superjet waterbox question

I stumbled upon a few threads that say the 2008-new sj waterbox is more restrictive than the 96-07 Box and can possibly cause detonation.

Any truth to this?

Also wondering if swapping to a lighter aftermarket box in the 08-new boats will negatively affect handling?

Thanks

YES at WOT waterbox restricts the heat from getting out and has be know to melt pistons. If you dont WOT all the time you will be fine. Typically racers see the issues

A waterbox has nothing to do with how maneuverable the ski is.

what do you mean.... the water box directly affects handling.... duh

I was referring to reducing the weight over the nose because the aftermarket boxes are a few pounds lighter. We usually add weight in the nose for racing.

Thanks

there is almost no gain with an after market water box.... spend your money else where... unless the stock box wont fit in your aftermarket hull

I am just interested in switching because of the problem with detonating during racing, and don't expect any other gains. I would typically just use the stock one and not waste the money, but there are a few horror stories of meltdowns with the 2008-newer waterboxes. Some people say they are much more restrictive because of epa rules.

Thanks
