Super Jet 2008 sj?

Hey guys could use a second opinion here. I'm looking to sell my blaster for an SJ and found an 08 at a dealer. Bone stock and they want 4k which in my area seems fair. Plus since its a dealer I can probably finance part of it until the blaster sells.

I'm not too familar as most of the ones I've been able to find are around 95's or older. Usually can only find 650's too.

Any major issues I should be aware of beside the normal look over? I got pretty familiar with my 93 701 so I figure the 08 should be close enough I can take care of any issues that arise with all your help right?

As always I appreciate any help guys.

They only want 4 grand for a new 2008 sj? why r u waiting or asking any questions at all.... but that sucker! I got my 08 brand new, i watched them take it out of the crate and it cost me twice that!

No it's not new. Probably 10 tanks of gas I was told. If it were new there would be no question. They wanted 6k (on sale) for a new one but thats more than I can really spend right now.

I really had no intention of spending that much money on one, but the price seemed good for one that old. Plus I figured I might be able to finance it til I sell my WB1. Yeah I'd much prefer to find one that's been built up some already to save some money. Usually, when I did see SN's for sale they maxed out at 2k (might still keep my WB).

Motoman25 that's a really nice ski but NY is kinda far for me and I had really hoped to find a nice used one somewhat close as I'll be starting my rotations this summer and won't exactly have alot of time to drive for one.

if you buy a stock ski, you'll be amazed how much you spend to mod it - I highly reccomend buying a clean, modded ski

yes 1000 percent correct , i wish i had did just that i could could have brought 1 of the set up Rickters on here at the moment for what iv spent on my 2010 SJ i wont be buying a new ski again thats for sure

Well you guys are making a pretty good arguement to buy a nice used one with a few parts on it. That's what I was thinking, for 4k I could add (or fix) alot of stuff depending what I could find. I've also been looking for a hull to do a 701 conversion using my blaster motor since I was thinking of selling it anyway. Just another thought since alot of decent 701's don't seem to come up around me.

Put it this way.

I bought an 03 used with 20 or so hours on it.(basically brand new) in 2007

It still had a factory warranty.

I am easily into it for over double digits with stupid parts, rebuilds, bolt ons.

Had I saved up and bought a ready to go ski for 3500-7500 I probably would have been better off. But I wouldn't have learned anything I know now.

It's all perspective. I'm glad I know how to wrench, but I wish I got cheaper parts.

Yeah I did the wrenching part last summer with my WB1, learned alot thanks to everyone here. Hopefully I can find a happy medium, one with some parts but some wrenching still. Would help pass some time this winter if I get a partial project.

hey man i just joined this site and your post was the first i saw. i actually have a 2008 yamaha superjet and im want 5000.00. It has a dry pipe, new head by Riva, exhaust manifold, msd ignition, scoop grate, 0 degree bars, a handle pole spring, and a 500 gph bilge. The ski comes with the 2008 single ski trailer. I have a private pond down the street from my house that i mostly ride in. Ive only been to the lake a few times so there really isnt much time on it. It sounds like you were trying to spend around 4 but.. it might be worth your while to spend the extra and get a full package. Also just so you know i just put the part on the ski last month and have put MAYBE 4-6 hrs on it, if that. I also have all the stock parts if you needed them. So if your interested let me know. you can call me @ 7608351858

Buy it. I just got mine for 4600. Its an 08 that was used for one summer (5 months) The 08 is a totally diff animal from the 07 and down. Buy it. Look for a used pipe and head and your set. They have trim stock. Just aDd the lever and cable.

I won't tell you what to do.
But I bought 2 brand new sj's.

I'm not nearly done with mine....every bolt-on mod etc...(see my "my ski" thread)

If I add it all up.....I know I have 15k into it.(including purchase price) And it's still a 701...not ported.

That includes a lot of maintenance stuff and replacement parts, but it is true. I'd be lucky to get 3k or 3500 if I sold it right now.

I'd buy a modded ski if I could do it over.
