Surfriding 2008 SJ....Versiplug / Lowered Exhaust tubes install. CLEAN !

Much needed progress! Tray is almost ready to be sealed up..... Finally came to final decision on the drains I wanted to use. Ordered some SS pipe couplers and plugs from Grainger and milled flats on each side to make a "press"(hammer) fit plug setup that will last forever. Ran my Versiplug, got it sealed up nicely. Able to cap the tube from the inside if ever needed. Exhaust tube lowered to allow for a much lower tray. Cut up all the bends and mock up was nice and easy. SS hose clamps and heavy duty turbo couplers finished everything up very nice. Nice smears of 5200 in all the right places. Everything was pretty easy and came out crispy clean!!!

Looks great as usual. You really should have one build thread in the build section to keep all of your great ideas in one spot. Keep it up!

I'd be scared to leave all those hose clamps in an area I can't access.
A friend on mine did and had to re-cut his tray a year later.
Then he did it wrong..... All stainless clamps with alot of red locktight and a smear of 5200 on the screw threads..... Common man this is MANFISH work.....ohh and the inside of the silicone couplers are also smeared with 5200. Its always better to overdo it once than have to underdo it multiple times!

The clamp didn't fail.
The connection vibrated lose without foam to support it.
Thats exactly why I overlapped the coupler by 5 inches on each side of the joint and 5200 the tube inside then put the hose clamps on. Tube is completely surrounded by cut to fit polystyrene blocks.

Welding would have been my first choice also but I cannot weld aluminum in my garage and fab shops charge waaaaay to much for something so simple! Plus I had the two feet of silicone tube laying on my workbench from an old turbo project....

very nice work! i like your solution with the silicon couplers, i think the way you did it will hold up well. i had my exhaust welded (i think 3 times), because it was a pita to line the exhaust flange correctly. so your solution is much better because you can adjust the flange without cutting-welding-cutting-welding.......
