2005 SJ Carb Nightmare

Location

Hi All, let me set the stage.....i purchased a 2005 SJ in Sept 08 from a guy who bought it new in 2006 (as a left over) and wasn't able to standup on it; all he was able to do is ride on his knees. The jetski shop i bought it from in NJ who was selling it for the individual told me they rebuilt the carbs prior to my purchase. The ski has never run correct for me since day one....it would run then bog out and so on and so forth. Last weekend i had a buddy of mine who is comfortable with carbs help me work on them. We pulled the hoses off and the nippled were gummed up so bad it looked like rock candy; we gave them a good bath with carb cleaner but never but them back together b/c i wanted to replace one of the gaskets that was in pretty bad shape. Just yesterday i was able to put the carbs back together and still no luck. Today i pulled them apart and took the diaphrams out and nothing looked to be in to bad of shape. I put everything back together and after a few cranks it fire up.........however it was really revving and continued to do so each time after. i've concluded that their was an air leak somewhere. i pulled the carbs back off and the funky looking O ring/gasket towards the engine side of the ski on the forward carb was a little smashed. (it was a little enlarged when i put it back together). With the help of a friend we thought we solved the problem with carefully fitting that O ring / gasket back into place and still no luck. After much frustration my buddy decided to pull the carbs off of his 02 sJ and sure enought my ski ran like a champ! Sorry for the book of details above.........My question to the "X=h2o" community is what should i do next? Should i pruchase rebuild kits? Keep in mind that 95% of the parts i would be replacing are in good if not excellent condition. The other is that why wouldn't it start after we cleaned the nipple. PS the filters looked brand new.please help me out in anyway you can.

If you don't get it figured out and just don't want to mess with them, I'm sure we could turn them around in about a week at the shop. We do stock all of the genuine Mikuni parts separately so we would only replace what's needed.

hey bring them up this wk ill go thrue um for you

You can't beat that offer with a stick. But a new set of carb gaskets isn't a bad idea either. Any kind of gasket that doesn't fit exact can cause a problem. I would never reuse an enlarged gasket or one that has been pinched. They are just too cheap to run the risk of blowing a motor.
