Super Jet 2001 Superjet vs. 2008 superjet, any major differences ??

any major differences between the 2001 superjet and the 2008 superjet

Do the 2001 and the 2008 superjet have any major changes in engine, hull , components, reliability or anything else differ like that between the 2 years of superjets ??

both ski are all stock and in good condition minus the hood paint chipping on the my 2001 sj , but I really wanted this 2008 superjet with only 20 hrs on it and its a good deal

Or should I save the money with the difference in price and save the time of selling my current 2001

nearly all of the changes are in the hull, it also has a fx1 pole and a stainless impeller.

the changes between the 2 are;

1- the pump intake and pump itself are moved back 2 inches on the 08. Pro- makes racing the ski better and hook up in rough water increased. con- a bit harder to get it to break loose for slashing in the surf.

2- the 08 comes with a SS prop so you dont need to buy a new prop asap like pre 08 SJs

3- the 08's handle pole is shortened 2 inches from the factory. what they did is used an FX1 handle pole so the top cast of the pole is shortened. the steering cable throw is shortened so your quickest steering setting will never be as fast as a pre 08. a lot of guys put on a pre 08 handle pole and steering cable to quicken up the cable. there might be a turn plate you can get to fix this also im not exactly sure. either way the steering sucks but it can be fixed.

4- the 08s motor is the same as pre 08s but the compression was raised to 165 vs pre 08s at 150 so it has some more snap stock.

reliability is the same between the 2 skis. you say the 08 only has 20 hours so it will pry be more reliable than your 01.

Thanks !!! very great things to think about before I tried scooping up the 2008 , I am looking for something more suitable in surf so maybe the 2001 would be a better ski to stick with as I have a sxi pro for carving and hooking up on turns and save a bit of cash too!

hook up and carving improved. For surf I would rather have an 08 personally . But its not a HUGE differance. Not worth spending a bunch of $ on. I would definately consider a hull only upgrade for your 2001 though, like a glass -4 or -6 freak or an FS2 maybe.

Hwy my buddy might have a Bruins steering system for sale for the 08+ sj. Complete with special steering cable to give it more there then pre 08

The 08 hull is a bit wider on the bottom. there is actually enough room for a Fac B pipe without rubbing against the hull or gas tank. I would like it better for surf, big diff. However, most of my riding now is on flat water. These hulls have more floatation in front, chine seek terribly even at low speed. that and that only makes them a complete POS in my book. My 750 SX 20 years ago did not wobble as bad at 50 as my 09 SJ at 15 mph!

This is what I was gonna say and what I would do, go get an aftermarket hull and swap your gear over.
