2000 SJ no start

I have a bone stock SJ (with a Coffman's exhaust) that doesn't want to start after sitting for a couple days. When I hit the start button, it sounds like the starter just spins free (bearings rotating, but no movement within the motor), without engaging the motor.

The original starter had the same problem and then siezed up when I de-winterized it. I replaced it with a spare and now this one is starting to act up.

The connection from the e-box seems to be good, and I have good spark. If I rapidly hit the start button in short bursts, the motor will engage and is more likely to start after the motor is warmed up (but will still occasionally have issues).

Any ideas on what I need to replace? I don't want to get stuck out on the lake when it decides to not start.

Thanks in advance

(I tried using the search but it edited out "no" from my "no start" query, yielding irrelevant results??)

Sounds like a bendix.......

Do a search, there is a ton of info on here about it. If it does turn out to be the problem OEM seems to be the best money spent.
