1995 SN build

so here is the deal I bought this 1995 sn for $100,
it had been riden in the ocean then it just sat for a year until i came across it.
now its winter and i need a good project so here i am,

so here goes if you guys could just give some help along the way id love any advice given,

After tearing up the turf found a very nice suprise, a rather large crack or split in the left rear of the tray,
iv been reading other threads trying to pick up what i need to order to reinforce
the tray and the engine compartment,


Could some one list of the products i would need to by from uscomposties.com

hey, nice project ski, do you have the 701 for it? i see its got a nice midshaft coupler. Maybe weigh it to see how heavy it is, a crack like that is going to let some water in. you might want to get some foam and some epoxy resin/fast setting hardner if its cold where you are.

12 oz biaxal cloth , I beleive the brand is kyntex
2 or 3 yrds should be enough , and be sure to use epoxy resin.

I just fixed the exact same crack on 90sj's ski. The foam was very old but there was no waterlogging at all after sitting for several months. I cleared out as much old foam as I could through the footwell cutout to ensure a nice distribution of new foam, put mat over the crack between the tray and footwell, refoamed (the repair held up even when the footwell blew out :banghead, and covered the whole tray and a bit up the sides in 17oz biax.

my ski had some wet foam in it from last season but i cut it open for new footholds and let it sit for a month while waiting for my new ones, the foam does dry out if its cut open enough, what are your plans for your ski, if your doing footholds and cutting a piece of the tray open for the repair you could let it sit and dry out. refoaming is a bitch but if you hull has leaks then you should gut it and refoam with some 2lbs before you do your footholds and turf in order to seal up the leaky tubes and exhaust.

Wouldnt be so sure about that, it only shows drying on the surface, and while it may dry a little, you can never dry out foam enough to make it as light as new stuff. Im going to have to refoam a boat sometime this spring, and my neighbor faced the same problem and I watched him through it.

He cut off the entire bottom of the boat, and left it with lights shining on it for about a year (propped up as well). He cut into the foam and realized it was still wet on the inside!!! Finally he just cut out all the old foam, refoamed and shaped, and reglassed the bottom back on, very extensive. Once foam gets wet, its wet for good.

Something to consider....even if you do dry the foam out, where did the water come from? Chances are, the leak is under all that wet foam.
(Well, okay, actually, the bond line, all threaded hull inserts, all tubes & the drive shaft tube)

i agree with you matt, if the foam is wet how are you going to stop it from happening again, in my case i foamed last winter and i sealed it all up except i have two leaks in my old crappy footholds, i cut them out and let it sit. i dug a little bit deeper and didn't find any moisture, so i left and after a month it was popcorn fart dry. if it is really wet up front of a ski then i really don't see that drying out by just sitting around.

I was talking about in this case and in mine with that crack but yeah still not a bad idea if you want to take the time. :beerchug:

i last rode in oct 2006 and i pulled my footholds out about a month ago, there was some foam right around them that was soaked to the point you could squeeze water out. it has sat in a pail with all the other stuff thats not going back on my ski and it is now bone dry so i am thinking as long as air can get to it to then the moisture should be able to leave, just sucks if you get it dried out and sealed up in the tray and it waterlogs from the thru hull fittings. I think he knows what has to be done, lol, LET THE HACKING AND DEFOAMING BEGIN. :biggthumpup:

what is going to be the best way to get all foam out, just the front and sides,
or should i cut a hole near the back where the split is to repair the split,
