1990 701 SJ 61X limp mode?

Hey Everyone. I’ve got a SN 701 61x that seems to have been put into “limp” mode. First thing I thought was the heat sensor. I unplugged that and it’s still hitting the rev limiter after half throttle. What’s the next thing I should check?

May not be hitting rev limiter. Remove your plug caps, take some needle nose pliers and tug on the wires, if some strands pull out out, cut back until you cannot pull any more strands (dont pull hard) out. Broken plug wires will feel like its hitting the rev limiter. How old is the coil?

Does it rev up out of the water? if so its not the limp mode.

I have had bad coil/wires (As stated above) Bad CDI, Voltage regulator, and stator ALL have similar issues, rev limiter kicking in early.

Hard to say for sure what your issue is. Don't overlook anything.....
