650/X-2 1987 X2, to buy or not to buy?

Hey guys, just wanted your opinions on this X2 I've been looking at. Bottom is a little scratched up, compression is 150 on each cylinder. Let me know what you think. They are asking $600

150 psi is low tho with that aftermarket head..

i see an arrestor but cant tell if it has aftermarket carb as well

Depends on the gauge, I've seen 2 gauges that read up to 30psi different back to back on the same motor.

My old marinier head was only good for a 15-20psi bump and 130psi is still technically within stock spec. The fact that they both read even is usually more important than how high they read. Less than fully charged battery, weak starter or any loose connections, above sea level elevation (this is my bet concidering OP is in AZ) could all result in it reading a little low.

Dont worry about the compression numbers as long as they are close between cylinders, it may have a thick fiber gasket or a ported cylinder. You basically have a decent hull. Check the pump, good housings are $50-100. The 87 engine had no lock rings on the crank so upgrade after it dies. 1991-1995 models have better engines.

I ended up purchasing it. Checked the compression, they were both at 155. Will be taking it for a ride today!

If it has been ported it will show lower compression too. Congrats on your *FIRST* purchase! Now you just need a stand up and a blaster.

Well, I am back to the drawing board. When I first got the x2 took everything out and inspected everything. There was an 8 inch crack around the exhaust, got that welded for now. Replaced the fuel lines. New battery.

I took it out and I get great acceleration at take off then it bogs down and dies. I'm going to check the fuel pump, feels like the carb isn't getting any gas. Only way t starts is if I spray starting fluid or pour gas down The carb.

pull the carb and take it apart, i bet its all gummed up inside!
