1987 650sx project

i just go this ski last week for a steal!!! only thing it needs is to be re-registered and then get a steering cable and battery! its got lots of mods. it doesnt have a stock carb it says mikuni on the side but i cant see if there are numbers. i also know since the fuel pump is missing too and its on the carb now. its got a mariner head and stock pipe which i will probably swap out. also has finger throttle and waht seems to be 4 degree bars and a tether shut off by motion pro.also has a ride plate and top loader intake grate too. dont know if the prop is diffrent though. so how can i tell what carb i have?? here are some pics...kind rough but nothing some time sanding and painting and turf wont fix!:Banane13::woot:

The carburator is junk its a mikuni BN not SBN toss that BN and get a SBN that way you can jet the carburator to your engine specs.

Congrats on the ski !!

Used here or on ebay SBN 44mm , open your intake manifold carb side to 44mm ( jetskiclinic ) also offers this mod if you dont have local machine shop.

The intake >< Carburator improvement alone is worth a lot !!

okay i took the carb off and measured the bottom of it and its roughly 46mm and the intake manifold is roughly 46mm as well with like an outwars taper. so im thinking that this is a BN46 that i have. so will it be okay to use the current manifold with the 44mm sbn?? and would i need an adapter since im going to get another mikuni? also it seems that some what of an exhaust mod has been done. since i dont see any hoses coming from the bottom of the pipe just one from the bottom of the exhaust manifold that goes through the bulk head and somewhere else.

I've got a steering cable for a 650 sx here if you need it. 40 bucks shipped. It's in good shape.

man id would get the carb but i dont think i need something like that. i already might have a deal for a normal 4 hole 44SBN. but the cable let me wait till friday when i get paid and i will let you know.

yeah im just gunna get it running and reliable enough to learn on for now that is. trust me if this ski goes with me into my first endevoar of surf it will be rebuilt and setup so it can do that too. i probably wont get rid of it, most likly it will be refoamed and holds installed, reinforced, and re-turfed as well. probably painted white and black or something neat.

stick some holds in it. Spray bomb it and turf it. Learn on it then move onto a superjet when you are comfortable. Don't sink too much money into this ski. There are much better skis out there that can be had for 1000-1500 bucks.

Not to say that the 650 is not a great learning platform. I rode three of them over time. They are a fun ski, just saying there are other options out there when you are ready to move up. Especially if you mention riding surf. These 650 electronics don't like salt much.

okay so what are those things on the side of the carb that have springs??? technically this is a stock ski engine wise. i t only has a head and FA but thats it. Could i use the ski with this carb for now??
