300/440/550 1983 Kawi 550 broken starter?

My 1983 Kawi 550 has run great all summer. Recently I went to start it and all I get is a small click. The engine does not crank at all. At first I thought it was the battery so I tried to jump it but that was no help. Then I charged the battery and still nothing more than a click. Any suggestions on what I should do next?

try turning the crank with channel locks, you might have a bad tooth on the flywheel, mine does that some times and it just clicks

this problem is the battery, wiring, solenoid, or starter.

if you know the battery is good do a voltage 1) and voltage drop 2) test.

1) with a dvom put the +lead on the starter post and - on ground have some one it the start botton and you should read battery voltage. if you do not get battery voltage here you have a wiring problem or a bad solenoid.

2)with a dvom put the -lead on batery + and the + lead on the starter wire post.

have someone hit the start botton long enough to get a voltage. it should read less than .5 volts. if it reads higher than that you have a wiring problem or a bad solenoid.

if both 1) and 2) test good your starter is bad.

well ares did the same so we kicked it and said u piece of and it worked when we tryed it the next timee IT WORKSS DUDE!!!!!!

jk but we took the starter out put it back in tapped on the solinoid and it worked

I have some 550 parts if u need them, let me know. I def have a starter & may had a good solenoid to if you need it
