195 psi too high for pump gas?

you might find you need very little avgas to blend because you are borderline psi....some have survived 195/pump with good trigger control.... and in cooler water less heat/deto...

the other trick to help as well is to make sure your cooling is up to snuff
as well as heat coating the pistons (like jethot, swain tech, etc)

your prop, total weight, riding style can all come into play as to the deto. effect
as well as heat and water temp, plugs, etc. (getting really nit picky here)

I personally am a fan of heat coating the pistons, but then again i'm a fat fawker too so i use it as insurance

i'm also a believer that the race type gases also aid in lubrication because of the lead, i know it's more for exhaust valves in engines, but my stroker has lived a long life and all i have used is sunnoco race gas ( i run high compression)

just another way to look at things

I have seen people run 200psi with 93 oct no prob, and i have seen some people have problems anything higher than 180

man, I only got 182 - 185 readings on mine with this head. maybe headgasket thickness has something to do with it? Did you measure the squish with the new head on? maybe a little more headgasket thickness will help lower it to a safer range. did you ride it with this head yet?

Well I am bored over 1mm so maybe that would account for the added compression...either that or my compression gauge is measuring high (which would mean my jeep's compression is super low since it's on the border line right now). I did measure the squish and it was pretty high around 0.050" I believe. I'm definately considering a thicker head gasket...

I did a cost comparison between av gas, race gas, and quality octane boosters and it turns out that race gas isn't really any more expensive than any of the others so I had planned to go with that. Problem is...I live in middle Georgia and all local businesses are open from 9-5 on weekdays and closed on weekends. No clue how they stay in business but anyway...I bought some Lucas octane booster from an auto store that supports the working class and ran it today. I didn't hear any pinging but I only got to ride for 20-30 minutes before bashing my knee and shin well beyond my pain threshold. I'll check everything out when I can bear to stand long enough to remove the head.

i had a squish of .068 or something like that and it made my ski run crappy..... i never rejetted or anything after installing the head, but it did make it run poor until i got a new head with the correct squish.
