144 or 148 mag pump setups?

if you get a mag pump, you'll be happy either way.

I tend to agree here, either will rip, what I ponder is what would the diff be between a 144 pitched a little high and a 148 pitched a little lower for the same motor,in terms of thrust for what we do. the 148 will load the motor a little more but pitched down to correct it,you are getting the same result as a 144 right but moving more water I would guess it would take the ski less time to get up to the speed of the motor at least in the low end mid range area?

Another thing I dont get is why you would want more bottom end in surf than freestyle, are we not up to a much higher speed in most our maneuvers than a freestlye trick in flatwater. I see what you mean about spining the prop off the bottom with a dry pipe and hooking up in the mid where the pipe makes sick power,I didnt realize a mag pump would spin at all pitched to make power? also wouldnt this still make it harder to initiate the timing of a flatwater freestyle trick with the lag of the prop spin? I know malone uses a 145 mag and he is making as much if not more power than most,Are his setups with dry pipes designed to spin " cavitiate" of the bottom also?

spinning the prop never made sense to me. if they actually did that it would make your setups different everytime in my opinion. but i'm new to the sport. it seems to me you'd want to match the actual flow of the pump and the impeller pitch to the power band of the motor. based on that i see why they run smaller pumps with dry pipes. what i don't understand is why everyone thinks dry pipes don't have the down low hit as a b pipe. i think it's all about setup :)
