Last night i found out im getting the hookup on 2 b1 hulls, ive been wanting to build one for quite a while, and will start on it as soon as im done bulding my fx-1. Ive been thinking about how to approach this. I'm not sure if i want to do maybe a JM motor with all the usual goodies like b pipe TL blackjacks and such, but that can get pricey of course. So ive been thinking of maybe finding a donor 1100 waverunner and going that route. It seems more cost effective and more of a reliable ski in the end. I will mostly be riding flatwater bays, and rivers jumping boat wakes and such, and some surf riding. As much as I like the surf and with as close as i am there is not much accsess to the gulf around here. I was wanting to here from the b1 guys that have done this conversion and how it holds up, how reliable it is, how much of a pita it is, and how happy you were with the results. Im really just wanting to leave it all stock under the hood, and maybe add a few odds and ends here and there, but nothing big. I want to keep it relatively cheap and reliable. Thanks in advance.

I haven't done any mods like this myself, maybe Scottie Mac can chime in. From what they are saying it seems like you would be better off with the Kawi 1100 rather than the Yamaha. I hope the build goes well! Post some pics!

I'm currently working on one myself. It was originally a yami 1100 build but have pretty much decided to go the next step up with the non-pv 1200. Same as the 1100, just bigger carbs, bore, and have to mount the ebox. about 75 percent down right now.

Its a nice build 1100 yamaha or a 1200 yamaha. Motor mounts in the front and water boxes is the two things that are major. Everything else bolts right up. Check out my two build and you will see. Both of the skies look factory.

I stumbled across those last night, very nice work btw. I do like the 1200 idea, and is a possibility, the main reason I was leaning towards the 1100 is cost. Im not sure what 1200 donor skis go for these days, but ive seen plenty of beat up 1100s around for good prices, but anything is possible. I'll get some pics up when i start the build. I got to actually get the b1 hulls home first.

The kawi might be kawacrappie, but set up right, it makes more power. Plus, with the RAD Dudes plate, no glass work. But, to each his own. Both are going to stomp all over a 701 twin unless you have one heck of a motor.

Yeah, I agree with the kawicrappi statement, ive never been a big fan of them. Today I found a thread on pwctoday that a guy is making the conversion plates for the yamaha 1100 and 1200 with no glass work. I think he said $275 plus shipping. Im pretty dead set on doing this conversion instead of building up another 701 or 760 and being nikel and dimed to death like I have been with my fx-1 build. I like the idea of being stock, but still having the power. Im going to keep an eye out at the salvage auctions we buy from for a 1100 or 1200 that took a tumble off a trailer.

i rode one very fun boat the extra weight makes it alot funner to ride , but the one i rode was a gas hog 30-40 minutes in the stock tank

The kawi fits in there like it was meant to be there. Plus, the pipe can be dried out easily for rpm, comes with flat tops already and the ignition is easily converted to advance timing with a 60 buck plate. The one advantage to the GP1200 motor is that it comes with 44s from the factory. But, like I said, to each his own.

I'll keep an open mind about it, if i found a 1100 kawi donor ski for a great price I definetely wouldnt pass it up. I'll catch a ton of $hit from my brother though, lol.

To make the kawasaki run really good take a hammer to the carbs, buy the adaptor plate and put the 44's on them. The yamaha i feel have more snap and bolt ons are around.

That's only if you use the 98 and above, those used the CV style carbs, and they are basically paper weights. I don't even think they would make good paper weights.

Set up right, the kawi makes more power than the yamaha. Look at it this way, the kawi is basically a stroked, flat topped yamaha motor.

If you are looking for a donor, you need either a kawi zxi1100 or stx1100 (96 and 97s have the good carbs)

Cool, thanks for the advice. There seems to be more dried out sunfaded kawis around at good prices than yamis. I got to finish my fx1 first, so im going to be patient and wait for a good one at a good price. I'll go either way on the brand of the donor, the more I read about them the less I really care which one is in there, I read good things about both.

I am in the process of building a 1200 blaster. It will be a Yamaha 1100 bored to 84mm, GroupK type 2 porting, with mikuni 44mm 8052 R-carbs, shaved head to 165 psi, bypass mod/dried pipe, V-force III reeds, Riva intake manifold, Riva reed spacer, primer kit, Riva cdi with adjustable rev limiter, Rad light weight flywheel, cold fusion drive couplings, C+75 16/25 Skat swirl 144mm large hub impeller 7mm cutback, solas mag pump & Riva FA's.

No glassing motor mounts. I ordered the mounting plates this week. Pics to come! Should be a fast ski.

That sounds like a sweet set up, im going for strictly top speed on this one, my fx-1 is all bottom end. What mods will be best for this thing? Id like to hit 60 if possible. What kind of top speeds can I expect out of a mildly modded 1100 kawi or yami swap?
