Ok last time we talked my ski was finally put together and I had a bad crank, and I was wondering if I should put a 750 in it.So got a new crank from a running 650 ski got my ski together took it to the lake and now it seems I have another bad crank. My ski will rev up out of the water but soon as it gets a load on it , it feels like the carb is loading up which is not happening. If I make the ski cavitate it will rev then it starts to bog down again. Im changing the nozzle tommorow cause the local guru said he had a race ski that had a nozzle that made the motor do the same thing.I am at whits end any clues whats up?

Its not the nozzle. Sounds like your carb is off or you have an exhaust leak. I had the same problem last year....ski wuoldnt rev unless I hopped the pump out of water. Then it would rev out for a little while. It turned out to be the carb and an exhuast leak. Do you have the stock jetting in the carb? What carb?

Ok maybe it is the carb but that would be too easy SHAWN NJ mine is doing the same thing what jetting should I have in it. I know its not the nozzle but my resident guru said try it.

This kind of sounds like what I have going on with my Dyna based Westcoast ignition, does it act like it is skipping or missing at all?:Eyecrazy: Also does it have an auto cutoff switch on that ignition?

I know I sound like a broken record. But really go over you exhaust. IT TAKES THE TINYEST SMALLEST leak, and it will do exactly what you are describing. I thought mine was good and replaced everything else (elec and carbs). I lost the entire summer last year chasing it down. The whole time it was a hairline crack in my FP headpipe that was leaking an almost invisible amount of exhaust into the motor compartment. Get it to rev out then ride it to shore. Quickly open the hood with some sun rays or a flashlight. Really make sure there is no smoke in there. I found it with a laser pen. That was the only way I could see the leak! No oil, nothing. Just a tiny bit of smoke. After I got that fixed it would rev, but not so good. So I put a brand new 46 on with:
120L
150H
2.3ns 95G

and its been flawless since. This was a 800 motor with 650 ignition.

Pull the flame arrestor. Rev the engine and look for fuel coming up out of the carbureter. If you do have fuel coming up when you rev it then the reeds are suspect.

I'll try everything mentioned . This thing has been a ordeal all summer I'm about ready to take my 50 CAL and put it out of my misery. Thanks for all the help .

Don't confuse that with spitback or reversion, a cloud of fuel you will see momentarily when you do that.

crankcase drain block off leaking, crank seals, old oil injection nipple . all are potential leaks. and by ueing the oil nipple for a primer it can draw extra fuel and run rich as hell

Crankscase and oil injection is blocked off and there is no primer on it I'm going to hit the lake later so I'll see how it goes.
