Haven't posted in awhile so I will make this as detailed as possible.

I tried to start my ski the other day with a fully charged odyssey(yeah I know) and it started to crank then slowly go down and down to a click with each start attempt. I measured the voltage under load and it went from a 12.6 to a 12.3, but wouldn't it still start above 12 volts?

Anyways, opened the ebox and did the screwdriver trick. It started to turn a lil bit then stopped and just clicked.

Im thinking its the relay being that it hasn't been replaced. Any other suggestions?

Thanks,

Aaron

same thing was happening to me.

it could be that you have a bad starter. try hitting the starter, that is under the top exhaust piece.

you can just take a flat head and place it on the starter, hitting the back of the flat head a couple times with a hammer.

Why would you think it's the relay if it was giving the same symptoms after bypassing said relay?

Sounds like the starter to me. Before replacing the starter, try starting with a known good battery.

Just because you're reading 12.3 volts on the battery doesn't mean it's good. Unless you read that voltage at the same time you were trying to start it.

Well my buddy Tim came over to help diagnose my starting issues. Relay would not spark still when putting over a screwdriver across the terminals. Had 12.7 volts on one end of the relay, and 12.7 on the starter side when pressing the start button.

So we pulled the starter, moved the ground around. Had nothing until he tried a multimeter to it while I pressed start. It almost literally shocked him.

So our conclusion is a) have a bad ground connection somewhere or b) the starter is getting weak.

Im willing to wager its more along the lines of the starter since the problem I was describing was the cranking getting slower and slower when first attempting to start the ski. I might as well replace the cables and relay while I am at it correct?

I really dont want to thread jack this, but i have a very similar problem. I have just a click in the starter solenoid when i hit the start switch. its a brand new (rebuild motor from Jetmaniac so i cant imagine it has a bad starter. so if you figure it out let me know. I have a brand new deka battery, I dont think its bad, but i guess you never know. it sure seems to spark alot if I touch a ground with a wire so it feel live. my e box is old and the solenoid rubber surround isnt new. im pretty sure its hooked up right. positive lead to the battery, negative lead from ebox to top of starter, back of starter to negative terminal on battery. will it f-up the connection if the terminal is sandwiched between the 2 lock nuts on top of the starter? does it have to touch the actual starter to work. its my first time installing an engine so im kind of a tard when stuff doesn't go according to plan!
