Not to sure how to but I can do a search. The side of the motor does look to have fuel and oil all over it. Its wet like something has been leaking. If so whats the fix? And is this carb worth fixing, or replacing. What would be a good combo with the exhaust? Thanks by the way.
My friend just got this ski and its not quite running right. It is a 85 js550 i believe. It takes four seconds on the starter button and just a bit of throttle to start it. Even after warmed up. When riding it you cant go WOT right away. You have to go half throttle and feather the gas then once...
Thanks to all the help from everyone. It fired up and seems to run just fine. I just let it run for 10 seconds at a time. I didn't give it any throttle because I don't want to overheat it. Can I rev it up a bit from a cold start without risking overheating it? Now its time for a lanyard kill...

Convert to premix, block off crankcase drain and turf then ride! If porpoising is an issue (can be with these especially) look into a scoop intake grate and shimming the ride plate to get some nose-down attitude.

It was just some dried grass around in there. It pulled right out. Thanks for all the replies. I pulled the gas and oil tanks. Cleaned the gas tank and reinstalled it. Pulled all the gas lines and seem to be in decent shape, no cracks or dry rot. Installed the oil block off plate with the oem...
Any tips on getting the inside of the gas tank dry? I washed mine out with water and then blew it out with an air compressor. Set it in the sun and it dried out just fine.
Fire extinguisher... check. I'll flush the fuel, put some fresh in and see if it fires. I'm assuming that I'll be able to tell the oil injection is working by the smell and smoke. If it fires I'll buy an oil block off plate and the lanyard kill switch. Make sure it fires up just fine...

Before riding it I would definitely want to add a lanyard kill switch. Where would be the best place to get that? Also the gas cap has a small crack in it and the gas cap cover is missing, as seen in the pics.
