I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you have to things going against you. 1. it looks like they accidentally put two of the right side (from the tray) mounts on the bed plate. 2. the bed plate is on backward. the breathers should be farther forward to let the pole lay down w/o the tubes...

I know alot of people with that pole set up and the ONLY issue I've seen come up is chin pads not fitting right. what ever it is, I'm betting is something simple and stupid. Relax, take a breath, drink some beer, try again.

get a paper bag or somthing similar to make your patterns. use an angle grinder or disk sander to make smooth transitions in the pad. you should be able to turf right away, although alot of people I have seen let it dry first. get yourself a heat gun and a BFRM to do the turf. it will come...
