They are actually glued on rather strong. I had to peal them back and cut away with a razorblade as I pulled it back. And the carbs on '04 and up Sj's have brass blockoff caps over the screws that need to be removed before you can change the mixture settings.

Ive heard good things about the XFT hoodseal. Has a grove to keep the hood aligned too... only $35 also.

I just measured mine yesterday. I believe from the bottom of the metal top where it connects to the pole....to the top of the aluminum on bottom it was 28.5 inches (straight/ not following the curve) thats off my head though-
