the problem with getting a telescoping magnet like was mentioned before is that 99% of everything in the engine compartment is made of stainless steel or aluminum. neither work with magnets. I guess I would help if you dropped a socket or something, but dont eat anything buttery before you...

already stated my opinion in another thread, but I say do what ever is the easiest for you guys. You should have just as much fun as the rest of us and that wont happen if you are worried about the details.
as long as you dont do long runs very often you wont notice a huge difference on back strain.
as far as how much shorter to go, that depends on how tall you are. taller people can go shorter without having problems. I am 5'10" 155lbs and I cut 3in. off my pole plus a shortened blowsion...
