Yep I have done quite a few of them on sitdown watercraft where they cracked the 760 sleeves and didn't want the expense of repairing the 760 top end . Truefully on a sitdown there really wasn't any significant decrease in power , and they ran just fine with the 760 jetting.

Engine reliability mostly has to do with crankshaft stroke, the longer the stroke the higher the piston speed , the higher the piston speed the faster it wears out the top end , plus the crankshaft has to be rebuilt way more often than a stock stroke engine.
