The girdled head is to protect your cylinder from cracking. Mainly from ingesting water which happens all the time in freestyle and surf. Now I'm not a racer but I have ridden my ski plenty of times in the bay and in very choppy water and not one time did my ski ever take on water.
I don't have a gps on board so I couldn't tell you for sure. But it is way up in the mid range when I hit them. I don't have the big power low end motors most of you guys have. So I need to hit the wave fast to get as much height as I can
My holds don't "lock" my feet in that just my preference. But I guarantee it was from my shoes the soles are pretty warn down which caused my to slip. So in hindsight wear shoes with grip.
When I fell out it was a freak accident not something I saw coming. I normally hit 5 footers at 30mph to do a nose stab and there has never been a problem. This wave was 1 foot at best and I just slipped and rolled my ankle and impacted the bulkhead putting all my weight on it
I did the same thing on Friday morning I saw a small wave so I came up to do a nose stab which I've done many many times and I slipped out of the holds and rolled my ankle sprained my ankle in every place. Sucks to get hurt I hope everything heals good.
