I haven't experienced this on the east coast. You hit the head on the nail Shane. Plus if you like fishing. Diving. You have to run far to get anywhere. Rule of thumb on west coast is 1 mile per 1 foot of depth off shore. Reason being why they have no waves. No depth to build momentum.

We personally use mantex and nidacore composite board on all or our transom redo's. Just template and glass right over it. Wouldn't recommend anything else. Also just completely redid a Gheenoe. Guy went all out I can send you some pics Shoot me a PM or tx I'm pretty sure I can help you out bud.
