I grew up and still live in a beach area. Most of the boats are fishing n cruising style boats. When I moved to Orlando for MMI I worked at a ski rental/water ski school. We had 2 Toyota boats. They were great. Driving a real ski boat is like driving an Indy car. They have awesome response. Good...
I painted the engine all white. It’s all in my first build post. It was best that I could do for the budget I had. I had blasted every metal part of the ski. Used galvanized primer, then painted with epoxy paints. Everything came out great. I knew the white would be harder to keep clean but I...
Well I have good news and bad news. A buddy of mine who I met through working in his Yamaha FZR got a Kawasaki 750sx. The ski was sitting for a long time and I helped him get it back on the water. (Has it’s own small post). Well he like the ski so much, he decided to upgrade to a 2003 Superjet...
Pretty sure the wire cut is the signal wire. Gonna need that. N the motor doesn’t sound correct in that video. Make sure the valves are good n moving. Stop running it if they are not. It won’t fix itself. Does the p/v motor go thru it’s cleaning cycle after the ski is shut off? Basically opens...
So my buddy n I figured out 2 different things for his barn find. He hasn’t ordered a wedge yet but we tried adding a couple of washers under the rear ride plate bolts. Was definitely a help. You could even see it was better from watching at land bc there wasn’t as big of a rooster tail coming...
I love this build. One of the best retro mods I’ve seen. Should hit up youtuber Adam LZ. He just purchased one. He’s down in Florida but will be bringing it up to CT for the summer. Give him some pointers.
So after doing some research, we noticed the ski is supposed to have a wedge in the pump area between the Vain guide and reduction nozzle. Well it doesn’t, so that is a big reason why it porpoises a lot. I’ve never seen a wedge on these pumps before but this was also my first Kawi standup pump...
You can have a lot of issues with the kawis and Superjet too. After so many hands get in there to tinker this sometimes get messy. I’m sure some of there new of the shelf running skis will have some bugs but they seem to be a good company to try to resolve issues
The fuel sensor won’t make it go into any limp mode. The only thing that does that with that ski is the temp sensor. Did you do all the work? I would maybe take off the fuel selector and make sure it’s clear. If not replace it. I’ve replaced them with the wsm ones and they are fine. You might...
Got the exhaust off Wednesday morning along with drain plate. Found new orings at tractor supply. We’re a perfect match. So everything went back on and got the lines all zip tied up n started the ski. Everything seemed to be good. Had to mess with the idle n throttle cable adjustment a little...
Thanks, Yeah I noticed that. I didn’t see any branding on it. The purple bearing is something I’ve never seen before. The pins were welded on it as well.
Ok, so today I got the carbs all cleaned up and installed with the new Mikuni carb kits. I checked for spark first to verify I was good there. I did a compression check and had 175 in both cylinders. So all I need is the 3rd side of the triangle which is fuel. Once the fuel lines filled up, the...
Got some more stuff in the past couple of weeks. Got the cylinders on and exhaust all mounted. Redid all the fuel lines and cleaned up the water lines. Had to put in new lines for the temp sensor.
Started tearing into the stator area. Got the crust out of the cover and stator. Installed the...
Yeah that’s a good idea. That’s what I should have five on mine. I learned the hard way when the tank pressurized in the garage and all the fuel came out into the hull and ate up the bilgecoat paint.
