I tend to do the same thing as you, from what I have learned is that you need to crank the bars all the way and try to rotate off of the nose more. Stay as compact as possible, ie handle pole on hood. It's a lot to think about but keep trying, your almost there!

I enjoy having tubbies for flatwater. I don't think it hurts performance for freestyle in any way.
