The liner is best removed when the hood is unmolested , if you cut the hood up prior to removing the liner it structural integrity allows it to flex and its a pain in the rear to get the glued parts out......( says the guy who has removed a ton of them ) :)

I think the end of the thread is sticking out to far and you might be pre-cracking them with that acorn nut ..... Maybe u should utilize open / normal _ nuts We tighten ours to 35 and never had any problems
