Someone may go against this but I think very minimal play is fine. Mine is not 100% perfect either. -

C'mon X-h20! Like Performance1 said, take the hood off on your stand and turn the motor on. Turn the bars left and right. See if the throttle cable is pulling when you turn left. -

I did a RN/SN conversion and took mine out, cleaned it up and re-sealed it. It was PVC. -
Other using 271 loctite on motor assembly
The only bolt I loc-tite is the flywheel. Everything else is anti-sieze. Don't worry about loc-tite on your hardware. Thats what salt water is for. -
