    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

Well, the pump was very easy. And yes, I think it made all the difference. It's night and day different. It's not that difficult compared to the fx-1 to SJ pump job. Its all about the midshaft housing witch I made in one day. I can make you one for around $100 or you can do one yourself with...

Shirt/ Hoodie Poll, cast your vote!

That means about the same amount of interest as last year. Assuming all voters pony up for a shirt/hoodie or two. Not bad. This yea I'll make them available to anyone with $ though(unless you work for the EPA or Greenpeace.) Last year I kept it basically for attendees.

    Boost Bottle for freestyle?

Ahh. I guess I figured that out, without all the science. So, In other words, the bottle has to be designed for your exact application. No wonder it hasn't taken off. Thanks.

    Boost Bottle for freestyle?

Kerker pipe and 38 carb off a 1100 yamaha. I have tried 3 springs. The top end is always 1-1.5 turns out so its about right, the bottom has been from 2.5-1.5 depending on the spring and top end setup. I admit I need a larger bottom jet but it was night and day when I took the bottle off. The...

Yea, carburetion is an art. I used to be pretty good at it but I've lost the touch. Pluss, there are nos specks for this build anywhere. Hopefully I'll have it running smooth for lsfr. You'lle have to give it a go. I want as much feedback as possible. Update on the special motor: Looks...

    Boost Bottle for freestyle?

Just wanted to let you know what my results where with the boost bottle. Unless you are really good with tuning, I don't recommenced it. I was having the hardest time dialing in my 300 with a pipe and a seldom used carb. I had everything really close but every adjustment seemed to make it...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

Did some more testing today. Replaced the brass spring with the next down. It still didn't seem right. I decided to remove the boost bottle. The ski took off like nothing before. This made tuning much easier and it nearly removed all of the hesitation. I'm basically back to square one now...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

I think he was just trying to sum up what I'm thinking when I took on this project. Thanks for the interest. Maybe you where referring to the ski itself. The 300 is way shorter than a 650 or 750. Plus its incredibly light weight. This makes it jump and pop out of the water much easier than...

Finally had a minute to see where my screws where. Top is 2 turns out, bottom is 2.5 turns out. So, at first it looks like I'm jetted too lean if anything but I think the screws are adjusting for the high pop off. I'll change the spring to the next one down. Hopefully that will allow me to...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

On another note: Just read some updated tuning info from Group K. Sounds like I have the pop off close but could lower it just a bit to fix the need for the choke at times. Then, I'll have a better idea where the jetting should be. I'm pretty sure I'm a bit too small on the bottom...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

Thank you, too bad I didn't see that post a few min ago. That would have saved me from typing all this for the third time: Read early on in the thread. I'm trying to keep the weight down. My new power plant will eventually be much lighter pound for pound than the heavy stock 700-800cc...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

Also, don't I want the bottom as close as possible? Couldn't I go to a 77.5 or even an 80 on the bottom to have the adjustment screw almost closed? That would make for better bottom end response correct? In theory, you're screws would just have to be cracked slightly if it was jetted...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

So your thinking just a tad low on the bottom and too high on the top by 20+points? I'm using the #1 carb. It's the one with the throttle linkage off the front cylinder. I'll assume the pilot is close enough at 75 for now. I can get it to idle correctly within 1.5-2 turns out. I probably...

    Custom/Hybrid Melmack's very unique 300sx build

What size carb are those specs from? I thought you used the 34mm from the 500. Mine is a 38. I'm too tired to remember where I left off tuning yesterday but I had the small silver spring, it was way too low. Wouldn't idle or run in the water unless choked. Then I put in the large brass...
