They are supposed to be stored between -20 and 20 degrees Celsius according to the manufacturer. I also read some physics papers online on how lower temperatures protect the cells. I cant find the papers now but that was my reasoning for the freezer.
My battery tender 480 stays up high on a limited slip gas tank, has flex seal around the seams, and caulking around the terminals. I also pull ot out after every days ride and charge it overnight on battery tender lipo charger, then stick it in the freezer until I need it again.
