OMG Thank you so much! Literally doing mine today and was running through this thread for pointers and noticed someone posted yesterday for the first time in almost a year! You da man :)
Case porting is going pretty good. They are definitely far from finished though. I have a lot more material to remove and smooth out then sand blast to an even texture. Suggestions and tips always welcome :)
Finally got some spare time and worked on the reduction nozzle, steering/trim nozzle, ride plate, midshaft assembly, and case porting.
Almost all my pump assembly had literally 3-4 different layers of varying color paint.
After 25 minutes of sand blasting the just the ride plate...
I'm curious what you used to determine the shape, profile, and cross-sectional area of the ports and how you came up with the amount you trimmed off the lip on the sleeve for the boost port? I am by no means saying its wrong, just curious on how you came up with it because I'm a little skeptical...
So ill admit i didnt choose the nicest day here in Minnesota (-5F) to go out into an unheated shop and pull my pump assembly. What should have been a simple twenty minute job turned into two toe and face freezing hours that ended with me tying a rope around my pump, the other end to my trailer...
Been quite a while since i posted last. Havent gotten a whole lot done. Been mostly prepping for powder coat and started soda blasting my carbs. This week should be more productive :)
I think that is an awesome idea man. Little reinforcing at the high stress points and you're golden plus DOT breathing through the pole will be awesome. Keep up the good work!
Thanks @JetManiac! So excited to start reassembling.
@Yami-Rider, i had planned to send to JetManiac but unfortunately their machine shop is swamped at the moment.
Finally got that damned Bendix bushing out of the lower case :) 9/16 tap, bolt, 1" nipple, some washers, and she came out perfectly with no damage to the case.
Once i get my gaskets, I plan on matching all my ports to the manifolds and gaskets, so I didn't see the point right now. Plus ive read into porting a lot and seems the going concensus for best flow is rough surface on the intake side and smooth on the exhuast.
So today I made some decent progress. I cleaned my carbs and they are ready for paint and rebuild. I also got my cylinder head, flywheel cover, FP manifold, and some more of the cylinder cleaned, taped and blasted.
I already placed a huge order with Jetmaniac which includes 83mm Pro-x pistons but I really didn't want to drop the $500+ for a ported kit, I'm sure its an amazing value but I'm already burning holes in my pockets with this build lol.
Update: Cylinders taped up and ready for blasting.
Top cases welded.. Just need to clean up the new welds, remove some more casting flaws, and some light porting to go.
