The orginal 90-93 SN poles would break rather easy (near the top bend). With a little persistence they were originally warrantying them as a manufacturer's defect. I think they may have beefed them up in the later years.

you may need to deck the bottom of the couch mounts 1mm, or you can "slot" the holes to allow you to shift the mount. I would go with decking them.

So what hull did you decide on?

Get OEM couch mounts IMO.... You may need to deck 1mm off the bottom or slot the mount holes, but there is a lot of rubber and surface area, they just seem like they will last longer. I have been running them for a couple years. I have a couple used SJ mounts you can have. I love my R&D pole...

Looks like a good deal to me... yes 12 vein has more hookup, but I bet a surfrider may like the 6 vein. Drop in a big hub impeller and you're done. Totally worth it IMO.
