You said your ground wire sparked ? Take your ground wire off the battery and inspect. I bet there is an arcing high spot on it. File down the high spot on your terminal and tighten that baby down.

I used Impros back in the day and that guy knew almost every combo and his recommendations for pitch was spot on.
