650/X-2 X2 Plugs etching on terminal black dust

Got a 1991 X2. 650: WC Head, WC Pipe, Factory Water box, Max Thrust intake w/integrated stuffers, SBN 44. Ski runs fantastic. After about 4 hours I get what feels like a stumble at wide open throttle. When I pull the plugs I find black power (carbon?) on the terminals. Color of the plugs look...

    FX-1 FX1 porpoising

I have ran a R&D with stock pump /stock impeller. JD with stock pump w/skat impeller w/kick . . this combination was night and day difference. Then went to 144 pump and used a Protec with part of the webbing removed (required for larger pump) . . solid rocket. I ride with most of my weight on my...

    650/X-2 Inverting 1991 X2 for Glass Repair

Most likely should start a new thread here . . . but I'll extend it a bit . . . Plan to turf the rails . . so ratchet is a great idea. I just ordered my SEM 39747 and gun for the rear chop. So I think I am good there. Follow on questions, after spending an hour or so this morning reading past...

    650/X-2 Inverting 1991 X2 for Glass Repair

I wonder how that ratchet strap on the bond line will work with I pull out the paint gun . . . humm. I think I'll roll with the blocks of wood. Also - your comment about an afternoon worth of work . . . maybe . . . but I don't got "Mike" skills . . . yet. Thanks folks. Always great to get...

    650/X-2 Inverting 1991 X2 for Glass Repair

work, kids, wife, life, other projects, distractions, working on a wetbike, swapping a motor in a Malibu skier . . . . too much info yet? Want to chop 2" of back, shave hood, revise seat to utilize a GP1300R latch, wire in a bilge, determine if I am going to glass in tank access (go internal...

    650/X-2 Inverting 1991 X2 for Glass Repair

Got some glass repair to do on my daughters 1991 X2. Plan on draining the tank and inverting the ski so I can work on the bottom side. Any harm or precautions in inverting the ski this way, for a month or so? Thanks.

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

That is good to hear. Elmer (Bonzi Bob) did my pump wields . . . so I would hope my alignment is as good as it gets. Asked the price to have a couch shaft (no taper) shortened. Strange that I sheared it, it is not like I have some wild engine build, it is only a pipe and corresponding carb mods...

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

Turns out I read the thread direction wrong. ADDict is spot on. Went to hardware store and got a 20mm 1.5mm pitch nut, went on put the impeller side down in a vice w/impeller tool viced, put a 1 3/16" wrench (close enough) and a breaker bar . . . applied as even heat as I could to thread...

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

I looked at using a Nut before I went to the impact. When I considered this, it appeared to me at least, that the nut would just unthread itself (threads going same direction as I need to torque the impeller) hence the need to weld the nut in place. Did I mis-read the threads, or did you also...

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

Thats worth a try if I fail at the next round of impact. Only challenge on the other end of the drive shaft, is the shaft is hollow on that end. Not as much meat to get penetration on . . . but desperate times call for . . . Maybe get a nut that is VERY large, so that it will slip over the...

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

Shaft snapped right at the end of the impeller. I would blow away the thin edge of the impeller if I attempted to get any decent penetration with wire or arc. Shop? Humm. . . . turn around time an $$$ . . . going to work it a little more before throwing in the towel.

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

Removing the impeller from such a situation is proving difficult. I now have a ez-out broken off in the end of the shaft that you see inside the impeller. Heat and an impact driver didn't do it either. Now sitting with penetrating oil inside the impeller cone (filled it to the top) . . . more...

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

Hey now . . don't get too down on that 144 . . . I got too much money in mine. ;) I put a wooden dowel through the steering nozzle and was able to spin the impeller w/o the drive shaft spinning. . . so I started on the Pump end. Here is the picture of the problem. Two questions: 1. How...

FX-1 FX1 Runs Great - No Go - Help in Diagnose

I have an FX1, 144mm pump, stock shoe, 13/17 impeller, Factory Pipe, Rejetted / pop off SBN 44. Has ran fantastic all summer. 40 Gallons off fuel through it. Lots of fun, up until last night. Jumping some waves, 10 minutes into my ride I jump a medium size wave, land, hit the throttle and...

FX-1 FX1, 144 Pump 10/16 -7, JD Intake, Protech Plate Need more Power

I have heard mixed reviews on the lightened flywheel. As far as the rev limiter . . . . I assume removing or reprogramming really necessary with a 144 pump. I would think that with the increased pump, and the desire for low end, upper RPM's would not be an issue. Might be an issue with my skill...

FX-1 FX1, 144 Pump 10/16 -7, JD Intake, Protech Plate Need more Power

FX1 Pipe from wetracer. Amazing difference. Ended up massaging a RD Ride Plate (had to remove some of the inside webbing to tuck more tightly against the pump), and rolling with my existing JD Intake.
