I've done a search on this but no specific answer yet. Is it possible to damage your CDI, or anything else, by charging the battery while it's still hooked up? If the lanyard is in? I've heard conflicting thoughts on this issue.

'04 rn sj, runs fine til I shut it off. Turns over fine. Spark is there. Fuel is there. Compression is there. And it will backfire after spinning over for a while. I'll figure it out eventually. Just thought you all might save me some time! I know timing, though unlikely, can cause backfire...

I've got a couple of hull cracks that are not severe. I want to flip the ski upside-down, motor intact, gas tank intact etc.... to do the glass work. I'll pinch off the fuel lines etc... My question: what else can go wrong? Gak up the carbs? fill exhaust with gak? Or is this O.K.?
