I covered the foam with gorilla tape so I could get the foam out after I laid the carbon on it.
I ended up using 2 layers of 1208 biax as you see in the first template bellow, and then a bunch of carbon layers all overlapping and using overly complex templates... this was my first time glassing...
I wanted to use 2 part foam to shape the nose and to lay the glass and carbon on.
To prep for the foam, I laid some plastic on the inside of the hull and made a beer box structure for the foam to form to.
I then hung the hull from the ceiling and poured the foam in
I tried...
With the strap tight I started to see the rocker come to life,
As you can see, the bond rail didn't follow the line a marked on the first try. I had to make a few more hull cuts to get it to look how I wanted.
I wedged some pieces of hull I had cut off into the cuts to...
With the back cut off I moved to the nose for the rocker,
I wanted to try something a bit different than the majority of the SN rocker's I had seen. I really wanted the bond rail to curve with the rocker and wanted the overall length to decrease with the rocker, effectively moving the pole...
With the tray cut out and summer just around the corner, I made the stupid decision to go ahead and "just quickly" do a shorten and rocker...
I marked out the shorten and cut about 4 in off the back, including the back edge the has the stern eye in it. Looking back now, I wish I had not cut...
Ok... so because of the weight in, I assumed the foam was soaked and needed to go.
After a few nights of frustration I ended up with over 30 lbs of foam in a bag... I am guessing the a lot of the water evaporated over the few days it took me to get it out, but a 30 lbs + weight...
Haven't updated my thread yet, so this jumping ahead, but here are some pics of the rocker.
I have not completed it, so I cannot speak to how it rides as of now.
Well ask your dad for friday and the weekend off, grab your ski and a tent and meet us there, you can come chill with our group for sure, everyone there is quite friendly.
The first group of ours will get there on late Thurs or around 2 on Friday.
Yes you do,
You can get work off... and your ski will be ready. Bring it there and we will finish it if it is not done yet... thats my plan for mine.. still getting domes cut...engine has not been in the hull yet... nothing mounted except for the pump.
Our trip is over 700 miles round trip, so you have no excuse not to go... just as you have no excuse not to land a back flip. And engineering talks for sure WHEN you make it there! Our group coming down will consist of 8 to 10 engineers so you will have plenty to choose from
Well get on that... You best be there, it will be an awesome time. And I want to see your back flip. I'm sure you could get it on the roof... Or put down the seats and throw it in trunk..Or pop the rear doors off and put it in the back seat... While your shortening it, throw some wheels on it...
We could possibly give you a ride if you were on the way on not too far out of it. A bunch of us are coming down from Thief River Falls, MN.
And you should get something more fuel efficient... I hope big offset tires on a lifted truck aren't keeping you from riding...
