    Removing Top Deck? (1987 JS550 Rebuild/Engine Swap)

Welp, I went out on sunday to try and give this puppy a go and was greeted with this. I am looking at these tanks as an option but am open to other suggestions. It looks like I could use 12"L x 12"W x~15+"H but that is rough numbers based on the tank not actual clearance to the hood the 12x12...

SXR Hood Storage ? Ghetto or Whoaa ?

I didn't know they had blowouts, my js550 was pretty mangled when I got it but I don't remember seeing one. Sean

SXR Hood Storage ? Ghetto or Whoaa ?

I really considered fabbing a second fire extinguisher holder on the other side in the back of my js for that reason but didn't want to spend the time to do it. Sean

    Cheapest "good enough" TIG welder?

I have been really happy with the stuff I have from Everlast. I have an i-Mig 140 and a Power Pro 164. The PP164 is ~10 years old at this point and has done everything I have asked of it. The i-Mig is 7ish and other than having some weird torch liner I have not found a replacement for, its been...

1/2 Colored hose, where to find?

On stuff that is easy to service or intended to be "permanent" I typically go with the pinch/oetikers as well. If it needs to come off and is a pain in the ass to get to it gets a worm. Sean

1/2 Colored hose, where to find?

HPS makes nice hose, I also use Venair. Make sure you use smooth clamps though, if you use the open style worm clamps it will chew up the ends when you tighten it. Sean

Freshen up engine before selling or not?

I agree, with that though, I wouldn't pay a premium price knowing it needed a rebuild. Sean

    Billet Head

Can you switch the o-ring from a piston-style where the o-ring groove is on the internal part to a cylinder mounted groove and use a thicker cross section ring to ensure you still get adequate squish while holding the ring in place? Cutting the groove in the head would be more expensive vs...

    Bondrail underside tips and tricks???

Clearly it is a government coverup to keep us spending our time sanding bond rails rather than uncovering that bigfoot is conspiring with the illuminati to take over the UFO's. Sean

    Bondrail underside tips and tricks???

I really like the oscillating multitools for oddball stuff but they aren't the easiest to use in grooves. You can get really narrow sander attachments for the oldschool "mouse"style sanders. Band files are excellent, and 90 degree die grinders are really helpful with burrs or rolock discs...

    Roll call!

I am really considering it even though I have ZERO ride time on my JS. Not sure that is the best place to start test/tuning... Ran fine on the hose though. Sean

    Hardware and Inserts, Dissimilar Metals

The smaller fastners are also way more prone to breaking if they corrode into the inserts than say a m8 or m10. M6 will snap the head off no problem. It is not a comment on loctite, more the fastners. Again, just what I have run into before. Sean

    Hardware and Inserts, Dissimilar Metals

I used blue locktite on everything for years in salt but on M8 and smaller it is still pretty risky. I am trying the teflon pipe sealant recommended by y'all on my JS and hoping for the best. The sealant is WAY messier, almost on par with nickle anti-sieze. Sean

Other Yamaha oem made in China?

100% There is a major quality difference in PRC (mainland) and Taiwan tools, its obvious if you pickup older harbor freight vs early model gearwrench/kobalt stuff but it holds true on almost everything else including the pricetag. Sean

Other Yamaha oem made in China?

The other half of that is how often you do inspections/visits. My former boss dealt with large forgings and castings out of mainland China and they were great when you for the first one/ten, great when you checked up on the facility and operation every few months or so, but if you let them keep...
