Non setback vs setback pump?

The setback is a modification for shorter 12 vane stators that reduce volume between the impeller and nozzle. They prime faster. The benefits show up most in white water. Flatwater skis mostly need large inlets.

I've never run a 'setback' pump but I would think in freestyle that would be counterproductive. Wouldn't that make the ski act longer?
I know in theory the pump is set back further, thus allowing the pump to be hooked up longer and heave move volume in the pump tunnel ……… but in practice, is it noticable?? IDK

Yes noticeable.
I don’t know your setup but if you have a 144 a 148 is a massive improvement and I wouldn’t change from an oem 144 without stepping into a 148.
If you have a 155 oem I’d stick with it until you get into a nice bolt on 900cc+ unless you have the money to spend but that’s just my opinion.

Here’s a decent thread and somewhere around here is a really good one from a while ago if you haven’t seen it

Thanks! That was some good information.

I am running a XScream 865cc SS engine with b-pipe. Thinking a 148 torrent non-setback pump might be my next mod.I dont plant on going much larger than a 1000cc engine in the future so the 148 seems like a good combo. The hull is a stock Superjet modified for freestyle

Yeah I mean for an extra 1200 to assemble the setback with all its special components I’d probably just get the non setback too for your setup haha

Another option is the Solas 148 pump which has the same or better performing vanes for less money, and is a 2 piece pump for easier prop swaps, etc. You can pull pump and leave wear ring in place to preserve alignment like with a stock 2 piece pump.
