When to go to 155 pump?

Wondering what engine size would be a good time to jump up to a 155 pump. I have a ss865 over motor and was winding if that was too small of a motor. What pitch impeller is a good starting point and is it worth the upgrade?

I run the solas 148 behind a stock stroke xscream engine. Is it “better” the. 144? There’s only one way to find out. Is it worth it? If you can sell the pump cone and current prop for decent money itwont hurt too bad. But at that point you’re committed to it and it might take a few tries to get the pitch right on the new one.

Agreed on the 760 with most AM hulls. 148 mags are absolutely capable of throwing down and for the ease of install on your ski compared to 155 I’d just go that route. If you go AM go 155 for sure.

You dont have to do glass work. I did it on mine. You have to clearance the pump and the ride plate. Then order a 155 pump shoe and clearance it to fit. Its by no means a drop in pump setup but its not bad if you like tinkering and figuring it out. Have to press your midshaft back i think if youre gonna use a stock driveshaft.

Does it do you any good to put a 155 pump behind a stock pump tunnel?

I assumed that when he said you have to do glass work he meant that you have to glass in a bigger pump tunnel to feed the bigger pump, but I haven't gone in and measured so maybe the stock tunnel is bigger than I thought (?)

I dont think glass work is needed. When i did mine i had the tray apart re-doing all my lines and exhaust that was corroded through. I bought a "bigger" pump tunnel and cut mine out. When both were out and side by side they were the same as far as I could tell so i stuck my original back in because it still had inserts in it and was easier to glass back in. Soo i glassed the pump back in from the inside heavily. Then i was able to take a sander to the original smc and make it larger and the transition wider and less angled. I took alot out. I think it made a huge difference in handling. Like the ski felt glued to the water once done. In the surf it stayed hooked up. I also bored my nozzle and had a stubby cone with a skat swirl 6/10 cutback. If youre looking for something performance related improvement buy a bigger motor. Youll be disappointed in the time it takes to get everything done and feel it isnt "faster." I did mine for the surf. I was always cavitating before with the 144.

As Resmondo stated, a 155 will fit without glass work. A new pump shoe for the 155 might be a little grinding work but it will fit.

But the pump housing bottom can be shaved a little along with the ride plate to make it bolt up.

If I was throwing another superjet together I would do it again (stock tunnel works fine in a sj, B1 has a smaller tunnel though) no sense in spending the money on an expensive 148 that you won't be wanting to use in the next AM hull you buy.

Just got for an OEM 155 and a cut shaft.

I was very happy with the 155 behind a ported 701 in my Circus hull. It felt a little better than the 144 behind the 701 in my Badass hull. For a stock 701 I would say the 155 is a little better in a lightweight freestyle ski, but it`s probably not worth the added expense on a stock 701 as the low pitch 155 impellers are a bit more expensive than a cheap 155 impeller.

Been running OEM 155 in my Blair hulls since 2014. Hull was shaped around the 155 drive line. Never ran a 650 with it but I have everything else.

I watched a tcfreeride video a while ago where he talked about the 155 out performing a 144 in every aspect with the correct prop, for an ss865 I would say 155

You have to keep in mind the hull the engine is going in. Does the pump tunnel flow enough water to properly feed the 155 over the 144 pump? Aftermarket hull designed for that? Absolutely. A stock superjet hull, I highly doubt it. Personally I think you're better off with a 144 or 148 mag in a stock superjet hull over a 155 pump.. the superjet pump tunnel is pretty small compared to an aftermarket hull with a pump tunnel designed to handle a 155 pump.. pump size doesn't matter if the inlet feeding it is too small. The time spent trying to make the superjet tunnel properly feed the 155 pump could be better spent tuning a 144 mag to work with your 865.

I've have owned / rode many 155's in Edges, FR2, Superjets and Rise.

I will never use a 144 or 148 ever again. Won't even consider it for where and how I ride. Surf only

A 155 with a 701 or a bigger motor is an unbeatable combo. I have had mag 155 and oem 155s and both are equally as great. Call Glen at Impros and let him know you're setup. He will get you the correct pitch impeller. Once you go 155, you won't go back. Plus piecing together an oem 155 pump setups isn't very expensive until you buy the impeller.

My Dasa Powered Edges (950s,1000, 1100) have 7/15 155 Swirls cut back 5mm
My 701 Edges and FR2 have 5/10 155 Swirl cut back 3mm and a 6/10 Swirl w/ 3mm Cutback
