2008 sj ..... Pole chop and carbon wrap .

nice work manfish! that carbon looks really sick... do you have all the info on what materials u bought? im lookin at mayb pullin this project off this weeknd. any other tips or heads up would be great!

Thanks.... Not really much I can say, it was pretty easy. I never even took the pole off the ski! Just use some nice epoxy resin and really any weave of CF you like best. I used the 8oz 4x4 twill from us composites. Lay the resin on thick and it will even out to a nice finish. Good luck!

just wanted to post up the pics of my pole chop and wrap because this thread inspired me! i opted to also wrap the lower bracket cover instead of the turfin it like manfish (i had carbon cloth and no turf). i never had experience with fiberglass or carbon i just watched some instructional videos on youtube and followd directions closely!polechop5.jpgpolechop4.jpgpolechop2.jpgpolechop3.jpgpolechop1.jpg

I was very confused at first, but I get it now. I thought you wrapped the pole and before you put it back in the bracket. I was trying to figure out how you did that, but I see now. It looks very very nice.

I'm looking foward to doing something similar to my FX1 this winter. Not sure i'll be doing the wrap though.

Thanks for the comments... I have wrapped the pole, bottom cover in carbon like shaunteesy did. I am just about done making a few carbon chin pads also...my own design and mold work. They are looking awesome!!! I will have a post up very soon to introduce them. Just working on the billit mounts now....

foregive me, but wouldn't it be better structurally to cut the mounting point off the bottom and reshape where you cut so that you don't have a weak spot in the pole? maybe more work but it seems to make more sense from a strength stand point.
