New to forum, need help with X2

Hey everyone, my name is Jed and I have been riding an X2 since I was probably 12 years old back when my brother first bought his 91. I'm now 30. I've never been involved much in the technical part of it, I always left that up to our dealer or my brother. There's not much stock about the jet ski anymore so I don't know exactly what to do. My brother passed away 1 year ago to the day. I decided last week that it was time to get the jet ski back on the water. He spent a lot of money on this fixing it up because I used to race it, so I owe it to him to get it going again.

It has not been ridden in probably 3 years. Last time I rode it I noticed that it did not turn well to one side anymore. It has UMI steering on it. I need help in knowing how to adjust the steering, or doing whatever needs done to fix it. There is a bit of play at the nozzle.

Also, I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can find either the whole switch, or just the front face piece that allows a lanyard to be used. This ski used to have one on it but I don't know what he did with it. I absolutely refuse to get this back on the water again without it. Back in 1997 me and a friend were out with the jet skis, and for whatever reason this one decided it was going to take off across the lake by itself and crash into the rocks after about a 1/2 mile trip. I chased it on the other ski, but a stock 650 sx isn't going to catch an x2 with a 750 and all the other performance stuff on it, with no rider! Lucky we were able to get a new 95 to replace it with. I'd like to not have this one go away on its own.

So if anyone knows where I could find this part I would greatly appreciate your help. This project means a lot to me, and I want to make sure it's done right. I'm going to try and restore things back to as new as I can in time, but for now I just want to get it on the lake!

I don't know specific specifications for all the upgrades done to this. I know he put a 750 in it, different head, pipe, ignition, prop, steering, dual carbs, intake grate and ride plate. Definitely better than when it was stock! I think last we checked it was running right at about 53 mph. I'm just anxious to get this back on the lake and rip it!

That's a nice lookin x2. I like the graphics
Welcome to the site, I'm sure you'll find alot of good info here.

RIP to your brother, he obviously knew how to have some fun with all those mods!

I've never cared for the graphics! Although the beavis and butthead stickers on it are ok hah. I liked the graphics on the 91, but as I said before that one took a trip across the lake into the rocks and shortened about 1 foot. This is a 95. Was luckky enough to find one still brand new at the dealer in 97. I think I've found a place to get the OEM graphics still, so I may go that route just to restore it. They have faced and cracked a bit. I just have to figure out what I need to do to get this steering adjusted since it's way off. And then decide if I'm going to do any other upgrades or just leave it as is. My only wish was that this didn't have to run race fuel! while I love the smell of it, it sure is expensive to run. i am not 100% positive of the power in the machine, but the guy who built it estimated about 105 hp. I can't wait to get this back on the lake. I just wish I could find a way to get a bit more top end. All in due time I suppose.

Well I got everything up and going, but could anyone tell me what premix ratio I should use? I cannot remember. Seems to me we used to run 50:1 but it's been a few years and i've forgotten.

yup 50:1 is what most run some run 45:1 and some 40:1however 50:1 is the most common and recommended mix to run...if you really want to change the handling characteristics and make it feel a bit more responsive to your body input cut 2 inches off the back of the ski.
