What Im trying to do is capture the video/game play from my playstation and save it on a hard drive. I was told that I would need and external hard drive, got that, and a form of software that would recognize the feed coming from the ps3 and I could record the game play. Does anyone have any suggestions?

i did google and research and went with a dazzle recorder. Seems to be easy enough so far and a decent price when i have a sister that works at best buy. i was just seeing if anyone on here had a different opinion. thanks for yours.

If you can't find a program that runs on the PS3 that will record for you, your ONLY option is to capture it using a tv tuner card.

If you want to capture using the hdmi, you have to get a card that will plug into a free ePCI slot, not just a regular PCI slot.

If you want to capture in true HD, you pretty much have to use the hdmi interface. Coax, composite, and s-video don't have the bandwidth for HD.

EDIT: Assuming you're going to use a computer. I think some DVIs can record video. There's also DVD recorders that will do it.

Yeah, those are basically your two options. Capture card will put a file directly on your hd or you can do it indirectly through a stand alone dvd recorder that has a/v inputs. The capture card would be less of a hassle and could also produce a hd file if you pick the right one and use the proper cables.

as said before, use dazzle. I have it and you can record anything that you can plug into it. It has svideo inputs, rca inputs, hdmi inputs and a few others. It will play through your computer and you can rip anything in the world to your hard drive.
