bilge switch like this

switch005.jpg

What a rip-off, piece of junk this was!!! i paid like $20 for this "Marine grade" switch, and it stopped working on the very first salt water ride! and it flipped itself on before even hitting the water!!! WTF!?!?! i guess i just need a regular toggle switch, or a REAL water proof switch if there is one... i wish i remembered who i bought this one off of, i would demand a refund... peice of JUNK! I have it wired on the negative side... i thought this would help corrosion issues? Maybe not? let me know...

I THINK ITS SXR800 OR SOMEONE ON HERE SELLS THE BEST ONE I HAVE EVER USED. i HAVE YET TO HAVE ONE GO BAD IN LIKE 3 OR 4 YEARS. JSS SELLS THE SAME ONE JUST WITH THE SWITCH KNOB TRIMMED DOWN. gET ONE OF THOSE FOR LIKE $20 AND NEVER STRESS IT AGAIN.

Shell out the cash and get a 3 way toggle switch from John Zigler. They are $35 but worth every penny. I have bought two and getting ready to buy two more...and not because they go bad....its because all my friends keep buying them off me! They are waterproof and salt water tested.

I have been running the same under the bar switch for about 7 or so years. before that I went through 2 of them in about 3 years. knock on wood. Wish I could say the same about wiseco pistons. 1 last year and another today. Averaging 4 rides a year and boom.

If your talking to me, the answer is NO, never rode the surf.

Twisting the bilge wires by hand works great provided you do it in fresh water only. The first time you try it in salt you might change your mind.

Not to thread hijack, but I have a quick question about a bilge switch. I found this water proof switch on Ebay, and wondering in anyone has any experience with it. It looks like it would work fine, but it may not last all that long. It would not be the end of the world if I had to replace it every session or too ether. I also do not ride in salt water so that helps keep down the corrosion too.

Those are very small ( like 1/2" in diameter ) and they do not have a way to tighten them down. The rubber top just pushes down over the on/off button.

I have always used the completely encased in rubber Bilge switch’s from the big parts house’s (Lynn Vick, Western power sports, etc). At least that’s were I think they come from. I have several that I have stocked up on over the years as backups but I have never needed to replace them as I have never had my original go bad. I always toss the aluminum mounting bracket and mount them directly on my start/stop switch. I make a flat mounting area out of JB weld and glue the switch directly on.

I have used the cheap switch like the first one with a rubber boot, I then fill it with fluid film or grease, then splooge it up with silicone, they seem to last for a season. But I went with a used bar mount switch so we shall see.
