any interest here if I can figure this one out? Its been done, but I had another failer today with my x2 prompting me to post this. Benefit would include the sealed Yami style ebox, msd enhancer for starters. (hopefully not biting more than I can chew...)

Be more specific about your conversion. Yes, everything has been done at some point but some applications are better than others.

The Kawasaki 750/800 e-box is way better then the 650 box. I hate 14 wood screws and crappy rubber gasket on the yama box.

What failed out of curiousity? The 94/95 X2 EBOX is just about bomb proof. Slap on a new OEM CDI and they run forever. I agree the MSD is nice, but personally I think yammy boxes suck.

IDK yet, fired up at home. Mockup shows it to be possibly a very simple swap since the 61x stator plate fits right on, just rotate 180 degrees and swap the rubber wire seal......(could it really be that simple?)

Finding a 93-94 x2 box is the best option for a 650, they have a nice retard curve and high enough rev limit. Next best is 750 electics, they work very well if you can find a place for the box. The yamaha ignition lacks a retard curve that kawasakis need so you are forced to set the timing around 16 degrees for pump gas. Not really a problem but throttle response will be softer.

Wow great info.

61x stator left.

Could it be as simple as wiring the 650 stator to the Yamaha ebox? Not sure how different the electrical characteristics of the charging and lighting coils are though, if any.

no, but I did notice the Kawi fires with the crankshaft key at tdc pointing straight up, where the Yami fires 90 degrees from that by comparison. So the stator plate would need new slots cut in and rotated to the new orientation, they are however the SAME size and fit perfectly on the K650 motor, K650 flywheel also has the same magnet orientation/and vitually identical shape and size. If this works, you could also run the advent or other ignitions with programable timing curves.

I know pete jacobs got into this alittle with jss. John was gonna wined a 650 stator for higher output to run a yamaha cdi. Or something along that

I believe I robbed a source coil off of a Yami 62T for the last stator I built for the flat deck 650sx, it works perfectly, you are correct the stator plates are basically the same except for the way they are positioned on the engines.I would assume you could create new slots in the stator plate and mount it up, wire up the Yami electrics and time it up with a light.

Any way to just run the Kawi stator plate and flywheel and wire it to the Yami box? I have my Yami box sitting right next to my (non-running) x2 and I was about to start comparing whether or not it's even possible.

no, you would need the Yami stator plate and do as described above, still using the Kawi flywheel. (I think...lol)
