best possible stock pump and nozzle setup for a big bore or stroker

Right now im sold on the ported stock pump with stock cone, with 10/16 hooker and a 62t less angled reduction nozzle straight bored to 85.5
Ive heard from some that the higher angled 61x nozzle with a taper bore is better, cause it pressurizes the pump more for low end,but I dont see how that helps cause with bigger motors most guys are running bored nozzles and shorty cones to unload the pump faster?
lets not get into tbm cones in this thread, just stock pump parts and impellers,Id buy a used mag before doing that anyway

Your 62T cone at 85.5 is about as good as it gets as long as the prop load matches the engine. Anyone getting more/less thrust by changing the pump is just finding tune with the engine and not actually making the pump any better.

kevbo I know you have done some thrust metering with diff pumps,I really like the hooker 10/16 prop it seems to match the torque curve of my 820 cc stroker motor very well. tried that setup with a ww cone and got some light cav of the bottom, stock cone worked better.
Wonder how much more thrust the mag pumps provide at the same power level?

My only experience with a Mag pump showed exeptional piriming, I didnt do any work with with it. Nobody is posting much top speed gain with Mag pumps so their pressure potiential over stock must be minimal.

no I wouldnt think their would be more top speed, but how about low end hookup and grunt

Don..what is a protec big bore nozzles reduction angle and bore?

Everything we have is designed as a bolt-on part for racers. We are just now getting larger, low RPM engines but are still using existing pumps/inlets. There is not much enthusiasm or money flow going into anything but big carbs, big engines, and carbon fiber. Dont expect much new development in low speed propulsion.

dont know about that one,I just think most dont wana spend 2k on a mag. you come with a way to widen a pump tunnel and use a stock cheap larger pump and they will have interest

i think i am 88mm or somewhere close to that
at one time ProTec offered nozzles in various sizes and i have the largest size
and i believe Paul had even bored it out another mil or so

i also have a JD intake grate, ride plate, and blowsion hull extenders with a high compression Lamey setup
works for my needs
i can get ripping bottom end, and still have plenty of upstairs speed, for my needs at least

Send Berky here on the X a PM. He's doing some stuff with a Stock pump thats crazy, his pump hooks up like a mag.

I ran a stock 144 pump, ported a little, Big hub Skat 13/18, no TBM, Pro Tec reduction nozzle on my 860cc 6mil XS/ADA motor, TL, Avgas, dual 46's, b pipe. motor/pump was perfect in a oem SJ hull. Had this set up in my LPW/Superjet Flag Ship ski. Rode 100% surf & the package rocked!

josh that sounds very close to my pump setup,it really works well, but always interested to see what others think works best also.do you know what size the protec nozzle was with that setup?also what is the type, reduction angle and bore of the mag 148s nozzle you are running?

don wow thats a huge diameter bore for a sj nozzle. good to hear they still work well that large though

I agree, thats why Im planning to try a 155 with matching inlet. Already been proven in the Blaster 2.

josh I thought the 148 mag pumps ran a larger diameter reduction nozzle, did you mean you use a gp800 reduction nozzle and 62t steering nozzle?

No Square..No Round..FX-1
MB, I also am running a Pro-tec maxflow blaster nozzle on my FX. The outlet is taper bored to 84.5mm, this combo (15/18 in the mag pump) yields 7260 max RPM on flat glass water.

gordon, that protec nozzle looks like it has the same redution angle or close to a 62t nozzle, have you ever tried a 61x on your setup. what angle does skat track use on their recution nozzles for 140 and 1444 pumps,or do they even make them for these size pumps,I has a 155 skat with a skat reduction nozzle that was very nice, just to big for my motor setup
