Driveshaft wont go in!

I just installed 9/15 hooker and dual cooling to my superjet and i cant get the driveshaft all the way in. It has about a inch left before it gets to the hull. it seems like it gets to this point over and over an just stops. I tried giving it a good bit of muscle but didnt work. It also seems like the spline is lined up because the motor turns over when i twist the shaft. Please help. Whats the problem??

That always happens to me too! I just keep spinning the drive shaft and try again, it will eventually fall into place! You are not doing anything wrong so just keep trying!

Wiggle it. Driveshafts can be a PITA.

EDIT: Wiggle it A LOT! It'll slide in.

U greased it, as per manufacturers recommendations, right?

Yeah reach up in the little gap and twist it back and forth while pushing it in and you will get it.

Don't just wiggle the driveshaft, but wiggle the pump too. Not just side to side, but up and down too.

Does anyone know why this happens? Does the shaft have to go through a bearing and then mesh with the splines or what??

I think it is the O-Rings inside the midshaft that the driveshaft gets stopped up on.

It's the splines. You just have pull it out a bit, turn very slightly, put it in, rinse, repeat until it goes all the way in.

Agreed. If my midshaft isn't secured, it's a lot harder to get the pump in place. If the engine is installed, it's cake to get the pump in because the engine will keep the midshaft locked in place and you can turn the driveshaft slowly while pushing on the pump until it slips into place.

i was told if you wiggle it more then twice your playing with it

i find the grease can make it harder to push the drive shaft all the way in, only cuz you cant compress grease very well. so when you move it around and wiggle it you are pushing the excess out thru the splines. and since the splines are a tight tolerance its hard for the thick grease to move thru. if that makes any sense at all.

For future reference to people doing a search. I pulled my pump near the water recently. My pump was lined up with the splined but I couldn't get it that extra 1/2". The problem was, I had the nose pointed down to give me better access and when I pulled the pump, the little bit of water that had pooled up in the driveshaft tube filled the midshaft.
